What's Included

Everything you need — nothing you don't

The programme combines proven medication with fortnightly human support. That's the combination that actually works.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (FREE)

NRT replaces some of the nicotine your body is used to — but without the harmful chemicals in cigarette smoke. We'll help you choose the right combination:

  • Nicotine patches (16 or 24 hour)
  • Nicotine gum and lozenges
  • Mouth and nasal sprays
  • Inhalators for hand-to-mouth habits
  • Vapes and e-liquid where clinically appropriate

Behavioural & emotional support

Quitting isn't just about nicotine — it's about your habits, your routine, the feelings behind the cigarette. We help with all of it:

  • Identifying your personal triggers
  • Craving-busting techniques that actually work
  • Stress-management strategies
  • Planning around social and work situations
  • Relapse prevention and long-term support

Common Questions

Let's clear a few things up

Tap any question to reveal the answer.

The service is open to anyone aged 12 or over who lives, works, or is registered with a GP in Birmingham. If you don't fit any of those, get in touch anyway — we can usually point you towards a local service for your area.

Most successful quitters have tried multiple times. Each attempt teaches you something. We'll never judge you for previous attempts — we'll use them to build a smarter plan.

There isn't one. The whole service is funded by Birmingham City Council as part of the city's public health programme. If you don't pay for NHS prescriptions, your treatment is completely free. If you do pay for prescriptions, you'll only be charged one single prescription fee for the entire 12 weeks of NRT.

Absolutely. Many people find it helpful to bring a partner, friend or family member, especially to the first session. Let us know in advance so we can make sure there's room.

Slips happen. They're a normal part of quitting, not a failure. We'll just adjust your plan and keep going. The only mistake is giving up on yourself — and we'll never let you do that. Read more about what to do when you slip up.

People who quit smoking gain around 4–5kg on average over the first year — but the gain is gradual, and there's plenty you can do to minimise it. We'll talk through practical strategies as part of your plan. Read our full guide to quitting without piling on the pounds.

Yes — and your quit may be one of the most important things you ever do. We have advisors with specialist training in pregnancy quits, and we work alongside your midwifery team. See our gentle guide to quitting during pregnancy.
